JASPER STRING QUARTET WINS CLEVELAND QUARTET AWARD
The Jasper String Quartet has been named the winner of the 2012 Cleveland Quartet Award, presented biennially to a rising young string quartet whose artistry demonstrates that it is on the way to establishing a major career.

The Cleveland Quartet Award was established in 1995 by the members of the Cleveland Quartet, in collaboration with Chamber Music America and eight prominent chamber music presenters. Previous winners were the Brentano, Borromeo, Miami, Pacifica, Miró, Jupiter, and Parker String Quartets.

October 10, 2011:
In September, Tim Fain presented a multi-media performance at Symphony Space in New York City that he entitled Portals. In a very favorable review, Allan Kozinn of The New York Times described this as a 90-minute recital of contemporary works in which the violinist is accompanied by a pianist, three dancers, and a reader. Only Mr. Fain appears live; the rest are seen on video, projected on a large screen behind him. He describes his objective in this way: "Combining music with film, dance and spoken word, Portals explores the ways in which we communicate, and, through communication, find meaning in the digital age. . . . The creative team and I set out to expand the boundaries of possibility in live performance whereby the performers and artists appear onscreen as if signing on, each from his or her respective private space, interacting with each other as well as with me on stage."

On quick notice, Jeremy Denk came to the rescue of two indisposed musicians last spring. Within one week he performed a concerto with the San Francisco Symphony (replacing Martha Argerich) and played a full piano recital in Carnegie Hall (replacing Maurizio Pollini). This summer he performed a Beethoven concerto in the Mostly Mozart series in New York and is appearing in the Bard Festival.

The cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan, who played for us last October, has just won the gold medal in the Tschaikovsky competition in Moscow.

The Brentano String Quartet has been chosen as the ensemble to perform chamber music with the semi-finalists in the Van Cliburn Competition in May 2013.

Soyeon Lee, who will be playing in this seasons Piano Festival, will be joining the prestigious roster of Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Two in 2012.
